First impressions count right?

Well, the same counts for your online presence. Speed is the key, slow page loads equates to high bounce rates, customer will leave if your site does not load quickly.

Here are a few Key things that can help improve page load speeds.

1. Make sure that the images on your web pages are as small as you can get away with

Don’t use high resolution files if they are only going to be used as a thumbnail, there are software programs out there that can resize and compress your images to make them smaller in size and this in turn will result in faster page load times.

2. Keep things simple throughout your website

Generally, the less your visitors’ browsers have to download and re-use, the faster pages will load. Use the same background image all pages and whoever is building your website to be efficient with code and scripts. If you want to test your website try opening it on a mobile using a data connection and not Wi-Fi to truly check its performance, remember slow loading equals potentially lost customers.

3. Make sure that your website is fully responsive

A fully responsive website it automatically detects the type of screen being used and displays the information accordingly. More and more people are using smart phones to search for products and services and if your site does not display properly, you will potentially lose customers. The best way to have a responsive site is to have it built that way from the start. This means whatever device you are using, the images, text and call to action buttons are clear and easy to navigate.

The best way to check if your site is mobile-friendly, try Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test tool or use a Firefox browser and enter CTRL/SHIFT/M and then enter the website to check. You can then select different devices to see how the site would look.

4. Make it simple to find key information

It should be easy to find key information on your website, such as your address and phone number. Many devices are equipped with GPS and mapping features, which can help visitors when they are out and about. It is important that when viewing your website from a mobile device, there should be a clear call to action button allowing site visitors to be able to call you.

5. Make sure that your website has up to date and relevant content.

This will not only help engage with your customers but is also good for SEO (search engine optimisation) and google indexing which determines where you rank in terms of google search page numbers.
